About Us

The ROC serves as a one-stop-shop for those not only reentering but for those who are looking to start or want to progress in their recovery journey. Our state maintains a prison population of over 30 thousand inmates. We release about 20 thousand each year. Over 450 people each year return to Boone County from state prisons. Of those 450 people, about 120 are back in prison within one year. Close to half are back behind bars after just two years. When people do not get the help they need when released from prison they go back to committing crimes, taking victims, and costing taxpayers millions of dollars per year. 

The ROC provides meaningful and tangible resources and support that can address the immediate basic and criminogenic needs of those we serve. The ROC serves as a central location where the people we serve can adhere to community support and belonging as well as receive advocacy and engagement resulting in everything from clothing vouchers to recovery or reentry plans. We continuously curate and investigate services in Columbia that can reduce the likelihood people will reoffend and return to prison and access to those services can now be found in one place.

Please note, The ROC is staffed mostly, if not exclusively by Certified Peer Specialists and Missouri Recovery Support Specialist. These are people with “lived experience”, those who have been there and done that, and who have completed an extensive Department of Mental Health training to learn how to use their experience to help others. People receiving services at The ROC will be greeted by someone who has walked a mile in their shoes.
